Time— my biggest challenge!
So far the greatest challenge to my exercise program has been time. I am back to work full time and lately full time means full time. So I am settled in for about three 10 minute exercise sessions a day.
First time is in the morning upon awakening. About 10 minutes of streching and light weight lifting exercise. When I say light weight, I am talking about several reps of curls (in various forms) and using only my 6lb. dumbbells.
Next is at noon. A 10 minute walk is very relaxing, invigorating and I have found that the morning stress has a tendency to disappear. I am in sales and have the luxury of short travel, never overnight. The travel allows me to plan the day so that I am near a park, lake, or in a neighborhood with an exercise area for lunch. Walking only requires a place to walk. If the weather is good it is outdoors, if the rain comes- it is to the mall.
Of an evening I can stop on the way home and walk again, or sometimes I go home and walk with my wife. Either way the evening walk is very relaxing and is the one I enjoy the most. I don’t know if this is cheation or not, but, on days I mow the yard—that is my exercise. The yard takes about an hour—I bought a push mower, and I get the instant gratification sensation from seeing the path I just mowed!!!
There are other things I do—park further away—saves on the door dings too, take the stairs (only one or two stories for now), and sometimes if no one is watching I skip instead of walking—the feeling of being a kid again is better than peanut butter and jelly—try it.
