Feeding your Spirit
It can be terribly hard to be happy and find joy once you or your loved one is diagnosed with CHF or any other severe illness. Something Sherman and I do is find things that bring us pleasure. Things like spending time together, going to a movie or out to dinner. Sometimes it is as simple as getting in the car and going for a drive.
One of my ALL time favorites is to drive out to Brazos Bend State Park and walk the wonderful paths and trails they have out there. I REALLY ENJOY THE ALLIGATORS. They are amazing creatures and so facinating to watch. The birds are beautiful as well. I don’t know how many different species of birds they have at the park, but it is a bunch. I feed my spirit with a long walk.
With all of the alligators, birds, turtles, different spiders and some snakes how can one feed the spirit? I talk with God alot while I am watching his creations and breathing the fresh clean air. This feeds my Spirit.
To observe these amazing animals in their natural state is awesome. I have stood and watched a turtle digging her hole to lay her eggs. I have watched an alligator eating another alligator which he killed days prior. I have heard the mating call of the alligators….that is something to hear. Those things help me to remember that life is a cycle and can be short, so I must enjoy the simple things and not spend too much time worrying about things that I have no control over. I can not control Sherman’s illness or his recovery. Sometimes I have to step back and just let him be who he is….he is a wonderful man and a beautiful gift in my life which I cherish every day.
I place him in God’s hands each day and ask for his protection and good health.
I feed my Spirit by getting out in nature. Sherman and I feed our Spirit by spending time together.
If you like to read, then get a good book. If you like long baths, then take one or two or fifty…whatever it takes. Just don’t forget to feed your Spirit so that you don’t die inside.
Step outside and see what God has prepared today!
To better living,
Heidi
