Summertime Walking for Heart Health
The main consideration for the summer walk is the heat-sounds like something you have heard I’ll bet. That is because it is the truth.
Drinking lots of water allows the body to stay hydrated. This hydration is important to the natural cooling system of the body. Just like a car we need to check the radiator. I have found that when I increase my water intake ( about 50% for hot days) my whole body will feel better. Exercise is more demanding because the heart rate is increased, the metabolism changes, and we get that adrenaline shot to make it feel better.
I have decide to walk early in the morning, I like the early morning. I get to watch the world wake up and it is the way I can start my day with some planning and thought toward my daily goals. My wife on the other hand walks in the evening.
She gets a chance to settle from the stresses of her day at work, calm down before coming home, and she gets to recount her achievements of the day and look toward solutions to her problems from the day.
Is your choice the mid-day walk at lunch time? This is often the warmest part of the day. At this time of day I would suggest an exercise of walking indoors. Perhaps you work in a building with air conditioning. If so check with the “Powers That Be” to find a route indoors for walking. Perhaps a few times up and down the stairwell, or up and down the hall. Even a few laps around the desk is better than no walking, or exercise at all.
