Just Another Rowing Machine-Or is It?
I am still on my quest to find the rowing machine that is right for me. I have tried another machine, this time at the manufacture. I was doing my other job, and entered a building I knew was the host to manufacturing—was I ever surprised to see exercise equipment of various sizes and descriptions comming from the assembly line. I am not sure what the message was, but the opportunity to learn was at hand…..learning is healthy and stimulating to me —as long as it is something that interests me. I found myself very interested in the process I saw, so in the process of doing my other job I began to ask questions.
My first question was about the brand manufactured at this plant. The answer was a big surprise…this plant manufactured many brands….they were for several different companies. The machines were all very similar,with a few changes in a few areas to make them to each companies standards. This is not like some products where the only difference is the lable, in this industry there seem to be some standards. The only change may be the label in some instances, but in most areas I saw, there were some diferences. I learned that the change of a seat, the movement of a brace, or the addition of a cable can make some very large changes in the function of a machine.
I also learned that in the Exercise Equipment industry there is a lot of pride, a lot of cooperation, and a lot of competition, but; everyone seems to have the end user ’s best interest at heart. This was a very refreshing and comforting discovery. I am very confident that what is purchased for “self improvement” will result in….. self improvement. There was one item this manufacture told me they did not produce at this facility…..determination. That was after my story of the $265.00 towel rack.
I may be the only person tohave had the experience of the home gym turned into a towel rack….but, I hope it won’t happen again to me, or ever….. to you.
