  • Cholesterol - Some Helpful Hints

My wife works at the local hospital. Her job is to be the coordinator of the Professional Office Building that houses the offices for some of the staff physicians, and the doctors that come on a regular basis from other hospitals to provide care to our community. A part of her job is to edit and help publish the newsletter for the hospital. I found this information in that publication, it is provided by our friend Michael Washburn.

Michael is the wellness center director at the hospital, has several years experience and college degrees in the fitness and wellness areas. He is very dedicated to bringing all of us to a better life through diet, exercise, and wholesome lifestyles. He has been very helpful to me in my acceptance and life changes since my diagnosis of  congestive heart failure.

The article mentions that September is national Cholesterol Education Month. I will try to provide other articles about cholesterol as the month progresses. In addition the American Heart Association(linked in our blog roll), and other sources of information can be accesed for morfe help with cholesterol issues.

In his article Michael stresses the importance of (1.) Having cholesterol measured (2.) knowledge of your risks of developing heart disease. Measuring cholesterol can be done through your family physician.

There were seven points made by Michel in his article.

    1. Get a fasting lipoprotein profile to find out what your total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and triglyceridse numbers are.

    2. Calculate your risk for heart disease.

    3. Discuss the risk for you as an individual with your health care provider. That person will give tips for reducing the risk factor based on your results. Michael suggests that we should follow the advice we get, and he often reminds me that I have paid money to get the advice. Do I waste the money-or is the money spent turned into an investment by utilization.

I am going to save the next four suggestion points for later publication. I want to research some other information I was given so that I can offer some “helpful hints” to compliment the suggestions made by Michael.

Thank You for reading—and being a HealthyHeart Folk.
