  • Adding Tools for Exercise

When exercise was needed for my health ( Congestive Heart Failure-that is for health), rather than for fun, (I used to work toward a healthy body to be a rodeo clown and bull fighter, that was for fun), I was a bit overwhelmed at the number of tools available. I do believe one of my problems was not being able to choose the best system for me. Sometimes the worst of my problems is to have too many or too much and in this case too many choices was a problem for me.

There are several lessons life has taught me, and one is to seek help when I am in a position of indecision. Sometimes a visit with someone we trust and have confidence in is a big help. I have one such friend, he just listens and lets me talk until I talk myself into the right idea, on lots of occasions we know the answer. When I am not sure of my own judgement I remember hearing “two heads are better than one”.

After our discussion about my exercise program, I knew how much I did not know—first stop the doctor to see what kind of exercise I can do. Our suggestion to all of us trying to be HealthyHeartFolk is to ge medical advise before we try anything. My wife and I are not doctors-just people with some problems, some solutions that worked for , and a desire to share our success and failure with others in hopes it will help. And if you find the information and products on these pages helpful—we hope you will tell others and our HealthyHeartFolks group will grow.

The doctor gave me a real good report and told me to do whatever I wanted; and, to push myself enough to extend my limits, but, not to exhaust myself or expect too much too quick. My rule of thumb was to be— 4 to 6 weeks before marked results were seen. With that rule, the great report, and my own effort I could recover from this illness to a point of living a rather normal life.I do have some limitations but the first part of strength is to know what those limitations are, and abide by them.

My first tool in the gym (my biggest tool is the gym) is the treadmill. There are very different kinds of treadmills. The professional gym type to the budget manual  The treadmill was my first tool and started me on the road to better health by walking.

Walking is great exaecise and does not need to be limited to the treadmill. But get some good walking shoes. There is no need to spend a big amount of money-but-we only have one set of feet and the carry all of our weight. I buy more economical shoes than others because I wear walking shoes, or deck shoes most of the time I am not working.

I also suggest reading while on the treadmill. That is exercising the mind and body at the same time, multi-tasking at it’s finest. There are several good books and what better way to get fit?

We thank you for being on our blog, and please know we are hopeful we can be of help. Let us know of subjects y0u want to hear about, and don’t be afraid to ask questions—if we dont’t feel comfortable discussing a subject, we will let you know, and will help you find the answer somewhere else.

Thank you again, and please—be a HealthyHeartFolks person today.
