Exercise-Not the Total Answer, but…..
exercising and any physical activity can be a BIG assist toward improving our heart health. Most of us know it will reduce heart attack and heart disease risk; and, we often forget the reduction in stress and the increase of our energy level. This sounds silly, but to get the energy to exercise…..exercise.
To have such an advantage the answer seems very simple…… Increase Exercise. What type and how much is a question for your physician. We are not doctors.
We do have our own doctors, and we try as best as we are able to follow the advice of our health professionals toward better health in all areas of our life.
When exercise is done in combination with a healthy, low fat diet we will do even more to please our heart, our heart doctor, and our HealthyHeartFolks partners, including family and other friends.
There are some types of exercise we have tried and some we only considered, let’s take a look at some of them and get ideas for our future exercise program. Because we are not on a huge budget we want to look at the “at home” type of activity first.
YOGA- is a low impact and multi-result exercise we can do with the aid of a little instruction, and very little equipment. This YOGA DVD comes very highly recommended and is worth a look—and a try if yoga is a choice for you.
Walking—another low impact exercise great for a starter and fun activity we can do together. If it is possible we can combine our time to exercise with time to talk about goals and dreams and just our every day stuff with our best friend, spouse, and other supporters.
Every one of us knows how to walk, and those of us who can walk often do all we can to avoid this exercise by…. looking for the closest parking spot, using the elevator for the “one flight of stairs trip”, or by driving a few blocks to the store rather than walking. All of the above activities qualify for exercise; and, they are ways to increase activity without budgeting a “special exercise hour”— we are only adding a bit of time here and there. We won’t loose the time— we will only be using it wisely.
If you want, there ais a DVD featuring some great walking for exercise ideas for when we can budget time to get the pounds off.
Tai Chi — the low impact and focused form of exercise that is very popular in many wellness and exercise centers. This martial art form has been utilized as a wellness tool for mind, body, and spirit to bring a total package improvement for the health and well being of groups as well as individuals. This DVD about Tai Chi will help to get a better understanding prior to joining a group. I often am intimidated by the knowledge of others, so here is a chance for us to get a bit of a “heads up”.
These we mentio0ned are only three of the low impact starting points for a beginning exercise program. There are others I am sure, so please, find what works for your personal situation and get off to a good start for HealthyHeart’s sake.
