Exercise to Help Control Stress & Reduce Heart Disease Risk
The new year has arrived, just a couple more days and it will be the realization that resolutions may have been too much for all at once….. stress time.
In addition to dealing with stress we who have heart disease need to move forward. The anxiety we feel only adds to our problem, so we have the added need to do the right things. A complete exercise program will do double duty for us….reduces stress and the waistline all in just a few motions.
I am still healing from rotator cuff surgery, so my exercise is limited to low impact and lower body movement…. I am walking.
Here is a walking program that is proven.
Leave time in your busy schedule to follow a walking program that will work for you.
Choose a safe place to walk.
Wear shoes with thick flexible soles that will cushion your feet.
Do light stretching before and after you walk.
To avoid stiff or sore muscles or joints, start gradually. Over several weeks, begin walking faster, going further, and walking for longer periods of time.
The most important part of walking is starting-walking regularly (3 times a week minimum)- and for me get some walking partners— it is more fun and makes me accountable.
