Healthy Heart Food Number One
Roy & Heidi Mercer’s HealthyHeartShopping Stop
In this case, the number one is not a ranking but a numeric listing…in other words, I am not going to rank food …simply list the ones we have tried, like, and find them to be beneficial. The change in lifestyle made for recovery from heart disease is not an easy one. There are certain foods I can no longer eat, things I can no longer do and other cannots that drive me to the edge. So in the next few articles I hope to share what we can do. Eating being my greatest pleasure left, I will share what we can eat and enjoy.
Asparagus, not an old staple for me, however I find ito be a great veggie to steam and enjoy. I have used it in salads, mixed it with other vegetables, butr my favorite is to simply steam and eat.
Asparagus is high in sanin, this binds with bile acids and cholesterol to flush these fats from our system. In and of self the asparagus is not an effective amount of flushing agent, however when mixed with other foods such as quinoa or alfalfa sprouts there is a cumulative benefit.
Asparagus is also known as a combatant of edema (water retention), contains vitamin E, B1,B2, andB3, all of which help stimulate the kidneys.
When shopping stay away from canned asparagus with high sodium, look for asparagus that is smooth, firm and has no sand in the tips.
To prepare my favorite way, stand upright in a small pan or coffee pot and steam. Do not steam too long, keep most of the original color.
Eat and enjoy!
