Roy & Heidi Mercer’s HealhyHeart Shopping Stop

Oatmeal-This staple of the breakfast table is one of the healthiest Mom told me about. No wonder I heard “Eat your oatmeal, it’s good for you.” from the lady that raised my Mom, my Mom, and now my wife!

This grain is loaded with vitamins, minerals and it helps reduce low density lipoproteins. The low density lipoproteins cling to the soluble fiber in oatmeal and then they are flushed from our system with the fiber. I have been told that a daily dose of oatmeal can reduce cholesterol levels by as much as six percent.

In addition to the help with cholesterol reduction, oats are loaded with protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, copper, maganese, thiamin, folacin,Vitamin E, and oats contain more healthy oils than other grains. This list of assets makes Oats a very good investment for the entire family. (Check with your health professional, there are exceptions.)

During shopping look for the steel cut oats, they are said to retain more nutrients. If you are shopping for “Baking”oats for the Oatmeal Cookies, the rolled oats will serve you best.

HealthyHeart challenge-with heart month just ahead, with the permission of your health professional, try oatmeal each day, check cholesterol levels at the beginning and end of the month, see the improvement. Please let us know how the daily serving of oats has changed your cholesterol levels.

Thank you for stopping to take time to read our article and please come back soon. Your support is very much appreciated.
